Figma Quick Tip: How to Swap Frame Width and Height Fast

Figma currently lacks a native “one-click” button to swap the width and height of a Frame. When you need to quickly switch a design from Landscape to Portrait, manually typing the numbers can be tedious.

Use this “Rotate-and-Wrap” shortcut to get it done in seconds.

Quick Steps (Windows / Mac)

1. Duplicate the Frame: Select your target Frame and press Ctrl + D (Win) or Cmd + D (Mac) to create a backup in place.
2. Rotate 90°: Hover near a corner until the double-arrow appears. Hold Shift and drag to rotate the Frame exactly 90 degrees.
3. Create a Wrapper Frame: While the rotated Frame is selected, press Ctrl + Alt + G (Win) or Cmd + Option + G (Mac). This wraps your rotated Frame inside a new, upright Frame.
4. Clean Up: Select the new outer Frame, and delete (or ungroup) the original rotated Frame inside it.

The Result: The new outer Frame now inherits the swapped width and height dimensions perfectly.

💡 Why use this method?

While you could simply type the numbers into the W and H fields, the Rotate-and-Wrap method is often safer for complex layouts. If your Frame uses Auto Layout or specific Constraints, simply swapping numbers can sometimes “squash” your elements. This method ensures the container adapts to the orientation first.
